We are super excited to be able to offer this craft. This technique shouldn't be confused with our tuffet (footstool) or rag rug workshops, as this particular craft requires a specialist tufting gun. Tufting works by pressing a tufting gun against a cloth, which in turn pushes the yarn through the cloth in a similar manner to punch needling. When neatened the yarn creates a fluffy rug pile/ texture.
In this workshop you will learn how to create a hand-tufted rug or wall hanging. You will be shown how to operating the tufting gun, transfer the design of your choice and finishing your bespoke piece.
Prior to the workshop you will need to design your final piece, so that we can ensure we get/ have suitable colours of yarn for your rug. The finished piece can measure approximately 60cm x 80cm.
Once you have completed your tufting we will seal the fibres in place, with a glue on the reverse. This will take time to dry properly, so will be left in our workshop ready to be picked up within a couple of days
Each workshop is limited to 5 places, if you want to book as a group or small party then please contact us, as we can always look for an alternative date.
Who is this suitable for? This workshop requires reasonable strength as you will be applying some pressure to the tufting gun. It also requires people with good mobility, as for some of the workshop, you may benefit from standing up.
